HIGH SCHOOL
Kupukupu: The kupukupu represents the perpetual “shooting forth” of creative ideas and the continuous growth of a student’s vision. These spaces serve as fertile ground for imagination, where haumāna are encouraged to continually sprout new concepts. Symbolically, they reflect the process of growing into new fields—expanding knowledge, exploring possibilities, and cultivating innovation.
Visual Arts education at the high school level provides students with a comprehensive foundation in creative thinking, technical skill development, and visual literacy through a balanced program of 2-D (drawing, painting, printmaking, photography and digital media) and 3-D (sculpture, metal, jewelry, weaving, and ceramic) art classes. These courses encourage students to explore personal expression while learning essential concepts such as design, composition, craftsmanship, and critique.
Students work with a wide range of materials and processes that support experimentation, problem-solving, and cultural awareness. High school visual arts programs foster both creative confidence and disciplined studio practice, preparing students for lifelong engagement with the arts, advanced study, or creative careers.
